Training Program March 31, 2007
The Cancer Patient Advocate
A Continuing Medical Education Course for Primary Care Practitioners,
Psychiatrists & Psychologists
Offering 8 CME/CE credits
Attend this 1 day seminar with optional Clinical Round Table Dinner and learn to use The Personal Cancer Management System (PCMS) as an integral part of your practice. The PCMS is a systematic step-by-step approach developed by an oncologist and psychologist to enable practitioners to communicate with patients more effectively and help them to navigate the cancer process more successfully. At the seminar, receive the PCMS notebook and learn to use its fifty tools, exercises, resources and information modules as aids to steer patients through the process. Case studies come to life in a workshop format using professional actors. Practice Management, Marketing and Billing, including reimbursable codes for this service, are also covered. The Clinical Round Table Dinner features case scenarios, role playing and discussion in small groups. This seminar will help you both deliver a needed service and retain cancer patients as their coach and guide before, during and after they have seen their oncologists. Skills include ways to manage and advise your patients directly or by referral how to:
- Sort out treatment options
- Make medical, complementary medicine, quality of life & lifestyle decisions
- Prepare and/or script for patient/physician meetings
- Deal with emotional and psychological, personal and family issues
- Identify and access second opinions, CAM practitioners, pain management teams, support groups, clinical trials, internet information and other resources
Other topics include…
- Marketing and billing: How to use the PCMS as part of adding Cancer Patient Coaching to your practice as a fee-for-service or insurance reimbursable service
